Blogging 101

This my first attempt at blogging outside of school. I helped a history teacher last year in my school use blogs with her students through blackboard. Students imagined they were traveling west and used the blog to keep a diary about what their experiences might have been like. The students really enjoyed it. If your school system uses blackboard, you should see if there is a blog tool. It is a great way to have students publish their own work while protecting them at the same time.

  1. What were the students' reactions to that particular lesson?

  2. I will have to play around a little more with BlackBoard's blog software. Sounds like the experience was a good one; I also am curious to hear how it all turned out. What did the students' think? Might help in determine if this is a route I could take with my own.

  3. Yes, I will have to check on that as well. My Principal wants our 6th graders to hook up with a school in England and compare and contrast ideas that they have learned about the American Revolutionary War.

  4. The students liked using the blog. To scaffold the process, we started the blogging in class with a follow up homework assignments. Its a great way to keep track of students who are or are not participating.
